I spent the last hour downloading a Ragnarok Online installer, because my friends are playing it and I have no will power. Then Norton Antivirus decided that it was a threat and DELETED IT, without consulting me at all. Just, download complete, then "This file is a threat" popup in the corner of the screen, then I went to look for the installer and it wasn't there.

Then I spent like ten minutes rooting around in Norton just to find where to find out what the hell it did, and was greeted with "Infected file: talron_full Action: Removed" in bold bright red font.

So now I get to download the damn thing again. Which wouldn't be a problem if I had a lot of free time, but I don't really want to stay up much past midnight but I wanted to install it and see if I could roll a character before then, which I totally could have done except that Norton decided that I don't know what I'm doing.

Norton still thinks I don't know what I'm doing, as evidenced by the fact that it won't let me change the settings so that it asks me before it starts deleting things like that, and that it feels it should alert me in big bold red text that ohnoes, your computer is vulnerable!!!1! because I turned the damn thing off so that it doesn't delete my installer file again.

I get that I shouldn't bitch because Norton is an expensive protection suite that I get to use for free just because my mum pays for Comcast internet, but sometimes I wonder why I even bother, because Comcast's "complementary" anti-virus suites have a habit of doing shit like this but being absolutely useless when I actually need them to do stuff. (Re: my old computer ending up with like nine flavours of crazy nasty trojan virus a couple years back. I think I actually had McAfee at the time but it was all "oh yeah everything's cool" whereas Spybot was totally flipping its shit because all the viruses.)

So I'm totally not going to get to play RO tonight, since there's this little thing called sleep that I'm actually rather fond of and am probably not going to get much of because I have to wait for the installer to finish downloading again and then whitelist it so Norton doesn't do despicable things the second I log on to my computer in the morning.

And in the meantime I guess I'll read more Sailor Moon. I mean, I only have like two arcs to go anyway; this should totally be done downloading by then.
