Notes - Starlight (part one)
Starlight (part one).
I promised myself that I would make Mao's story totally original, and that's the start of it. I know where I'm going (mostly) for the second story arc, so with luck it won't take me as long to write that as it did to write the prologue (I actually started it in January. Oops).
Mao, as a character, has evolved a lot since I first created her. I used some of her earlier concepts to create another character, but even that Mao is completely different from the current Mao. And that's okay. In the interim I wrote a lot of wish fulfilment fic using Mao as an avatar of change, and that's okay, too, because it helped me figure out who she is; it helped me realise that Mao is a person with strengths and weaknesses, with wants and dreams. Her story means something to me, because as I've matured, she has, too. It's not evident yet, not at this point in the story, but by the time it's over it will be.
The next Starlight chapter I'll talk more about Mao's origin, but next chapter starts the second arc, so it won't be for a while.
