So last night around midnight or so my fan stopped working. It was about seventy degrees outside and probably warmer in my room, so that was a big problem. I eventually ended up taking the fan in the living room and setting it up in my room... it's not as good, but it'll have to do.

Today I'm procrastinating chores and reading looking at scholarships! I hit up all the usual effort-free ones (mostly effort-free, anyway; "tell us how you'll use the money and we'll pick the best reason!" what the hell is the best reason supposed to be? How do you even judge that?) and then ended up signing up for yet another scholarship matching site. This one seems to be rather a bit better than the others, though, in that it's showing me a ton more scholarships (including the Atlas Shrugged one, which until now I only knew how to find by googling). And I found a pair of scholarships that seem perfectly tailored to me! Write a sci-fi/fantasy short story! Draw three sci-fi/fantasy illustrations depicting three different themes! It's perfect for me!

Well, except that it's sponsored by L. Ron Hubbard.

I'd like to think that I have standards, but I'm already perfectly cool with taking objectivism money, so why should I balk at taking scientology money? (If I weren't already a third of the way through Atlas Shrugged and thus committed to finishing the damn thing, I would probably not be considering this scholarship, not gonna lie.) And it's not like I couldn't use the money. I could actually really, really use the money. And it's not like I don't have any ideas!

And apparently I don't have any standards, either, so that shouldn't be a problem.

In other news! There was a 5.8 quake in Virginia yesterday. As a Californian I feel that it's not a big deal - but then I also understand that people out there aren't used to big quakes and that most things out there aren't built for big quakes, so to them, it was a big deal. I can understand that earthquake being news.

But "Pair Of 3.6 Magnitude Quakes Rattle East Bay"? That is not news. That is not in any way news. It's California, it's the Bay Area, there are earthquakes all the time, they weren't even that big. Why do we need five different articles about it?

Finally, I've learned that I basically have to start handling my own prescription refills now. It's not surprising; I'm an adult now, after all, and it's just a phone call, so it isn't very complicated or anything. I would have liked if that lesson hadn't involved my mum flying into a spitting rage because the phone rep wanted to talk to me directly, though.

Anyway! Off to do chores and reading find more scholarships.
