Yesterday I began reading a book I have to do a report on for my mass media class. Early on it said something about how often, inspiration will strike a writer out of absolutely nowhere, and he or she usually stops whatever they're doing to write it down before they lose it. A couple pages later I got hit with inspiration for something and had to set aside the book to write it down right then before I lost it.

Funny how that works.

The inspiration in question was kind of an alternate version of Chasing A Starlight, sort of - the notes I scribbled down were filled with "Mao" and "Haru" and "skydancer" all over the place but I knew I needed to write somebody who wasn't one of them and wasn't somebody else's character, so I decided it was going to be something different; so now it's all "Estelliese" and "Niklaus" and "les gens du ciel" everywhere. (I'm definitely not actually calling them "les gens du ciel" but I wanted something that wasn't "skydancer" so I improvised.) I didn't think I was going to do NaNoWriMo this year but it seems that I may end up giving it a go anyway!

The fun part is I get to write a new story. The not-fun part is that I get to do all the world-building associated with it. (Of course, the world-building in my notes is a bunch of stuff I cribbed off the skydancer world-building I did. Well, most of it was out of place there, anyway. ...not that it's any less out of place where it is now...) I'm kind of looking forward to it, but I'm dreading it at the same time, because I don't know that I'm talented enough to get the picture in my head on the page. (This is what I worry about all the time, though, and it's what actually killed me last year when I tried NaNo; I kept trying to write it like I do my essays, getting everything absolutely right before moving on. Well, I've written my last few essays by throwing words at the page, seeing what sticks, and making it all pretty later; so maybe there's still hope for me.)

My stats teacher, by the way, continues to be kind of a jerk. This time he was annoyed that the entire class was doing work instead of paying attention to him explaining something I'm fairly certain we all knew how to do (except maybe the people who'd asked him how to do it, and they were paying attention) so he went to his computer and did teacher-program stuff and locked up all the computers. For an hour. Yeah, I don't think anybody got anything done; I know I sure didn't. I wanted to just leave after he did that; it would have been more productive. (Next time - and I'm fairly certain that there's going to be a next time - I think I will.)

Speaking of stats! I have a stats test in about five minutes. I did okay on the quiz, so I'm hoping I'll do just as good, if not better, on the actual test. (I thought that last week and it didn't work out quite so well. If I'm lucky that won't be the case this week.)

...I think I need to start tagging my posts again. Well, maybe I'll do that later.
