And then I bought The Sims 3! Actually I bought TS3, Generations, and Pets, and then proceeded to... make use of none of the expansion perks except some outfits and spiral stairs. There are currently no pets in this city. What there are, however, are fucking weird sims.
So there I am, sitting at the 'create a household' screen, thinking, "Hmm, I wonder who I should make. Oh, I know, I'll make Maria!" (By which I of course mean Maria Traydor from Star Ocean 3, which I have recently started playing again - Universe mode is fucking hard and so are bonus bosses, and that's all I have to say about that.) Of course I couldn't stop with just Maria, so I made Fayt and Sophia and Luther, too. All in the same family. (The Traydor family, since I made Maria first.)
Everyone in the house is friends. Fayt and Maria are besties and so are Luther and Sophia. I guess it's because I didn't make Luther explicitly evil? Instead he's a charismatic neurotic genius who wants to be CEO of a mega-corporation, which... you know, is basically what he is already. (Maybe I should have made him insane, too.) Sophia is an artistic animal lover, so she spends all her time painting and wears an ugly cat sweater. Fayt is... well, he's Fayt. He talks about computers a lot and somehow does half the cleaning in the house even though I didn't make him neat. And Maria is the cook/handyman in the house, wants to learn ALL the recipes, and is a cop, because I said so.
This is my active household (barring cases like right now, which I'll talk about in a bit).
Then I thought, well, I've got this shiny new story progression mod, it's telling me all about my townies; maybe I should make some townies I actually want to hear about. So I made Oliver and Olivia Shepard and also The Dude Lebowski, and moved them into town too. (Oliver and Olivia live in a one-bedroom house and I am very curious as to how that works out.) I don't actually play them, so I can't say much about what they do, but here are the notifs I've gotten about them from least to most surprising: Olivia got hired at the cop shop, Oliver went the career criminal route, and The Dude apparently forgot which Lebowski he is and wants to be a politician.
Yeah. I don't even know.
My current craziness isn't quite finished yet - I've got this guild story kicking around, right, and there are dudes in it, and I figured, why not make them sims? (Said story functions off a mish-mash of Final Fantasy job-types and some 'original' world-building but I should probably file the serial numbers off at some point.) So in one family I've got their white mage/devout Lynne and their leader/black mage Atticus. The guild is called Spinel Sun so they're the Spinellis. Then in another family I've got dragoon/lancerLuther Walter Volker and his bound spirit Fayt Chester. (More serial numbers to file off; they're basically weird AU Luther and Fayt, which is what they're called in the story; only I realised I already had a Luther and Fayt kicking around town so I had to scramble for new names. Chester came easily. Volker did not.) Since I'm merging them with the Spinellis anyway their last name didn't matter much, so they're the Bounts (a dumb play on bound). I haven't merged them yet, though. I haven't even made the last (for now) member of their merry guild, Samuel the magic dump scholar, and I'll probably have to find some custom hair before I do (there is such a dearth of male custom hair for TS3, it's ridiculous).
Like I said, I've not yet merged anybody into the main guild house, since apparently you can't merge families in the bin, so I'd have to install at least one family into the town before I could merge anybody. So naturally I put the Spinellis first. Then I figured I may as well build the guild hall before sticking anybody else in (cue some minor frustration in figuring out which mod controlled saving wishes when swapping households, though I got it quickly enough). So I started doing that. I've actually stopped partway in that step, because I got a bit burnt out (an interior designer is not me) and also I didn't want my computer to thermal shut down on me again.
I don't get it. My laptop runs all three Mass Effect games just fine, but The Sims 3 makes it go nuts.
Anyway, so I have to finish setting up the bedrooms and put in some wallpaper or something, add some stuff for fun (I had to take a ton out just so Lynne and Atticus could afford the place (two-sim families do not have much and I guess you can't familyfunds cheat families in the bin), make Samuel and merge everybody, then swap back to my lovely Traydor house just in time for Maria's first day on the job :3
tl;dr: I've got the main three protagonists and main antagonist of Star Ocean 3, The Dude, and Oliver and Olivia Shepard in town, and they are all weird. I'm adding magic guild members for more weird. I may add Avengers and/or Persona 3 (and possibly 4) characters as well. There is a Loki in this town's future and his traits will be evil, insane, neurotic, genius, and animal lover, because I can.
