Tuesday, 22 March 2011 05:50 pmAm finally preparing for the pastastravaganza that I promised myself once we got the sink fixed last week but never had. Since mum went out to da's, and da asked for food from a restaurant that just about everybody knows I don't like, I am on my own for food!
But that's okay, because I'm going to have pasta with meatballs and ridiculous amounts of parmesan cheese.
In my precalculus class, we're apparently going to have a pi party. (We should have done this on the fourteenth, but - naturally - my precal teacher knows nothing about good timing, so instead we're doing it next Friday.) I can't exactly complain, seeing as I'll have a concert hangover that day anyway and honestly the only thing better than a party in my most-hated class is having a sub in that class.
The only downside is my teacher's insistence that pie is the only food allowed into the room because it's a pi party, so obviously all anybody can eat is pie. I mean, yeah, okay, it's punny, but Mez's idea of a cake shaped like the pi symbol is much cooler, and I was planning on making cupcakes with a digit of pi each. Mez actually asked, because teacher got bent out of shape about it ("You can't bring food, you can only bring pie." "But what if it's cake shaped like the pi symbol?" "Cake is not pie! It's a pi party! /draws pi symbol on board" "But what if the cake looks exactly like that symbol?!" "...okay, that's fine, you can do that. But only you!") and I didn't even bother, I'm just going to make them and bring them and whatever.
Or not, because I'd have to make them on Wednesday because of the concert on Thursday, but they'd probably still be fine so that's fine, it's just whether or not I can be assed to do it.
Also, I guess everybody is talking about that song Friday. I don't really know why everybody's talking about it, it's mediocre pop music by a thirteen year old who probably had no say in the thing other than her parents saying "do you want a music video" and her saying "yeah sure that's cool" (disclaimer: I actually have no idea of the circumstances surrounding the making of that video, other than it was done by some company that apparently mass-produces mediocre pop songs and music videos). I mean, it's definitely not the best song ever. It's definitely not even in the running. But that doesn't mean we need to tweet death threats to the girl, damn.
Apparently people have the song stuck in their head all the time and that's why they hate it (and Rebecca Black by proxy) I guess. I don't know what that's like, because every time somebody complains about it or starts singing it I end up with Catch You Catch Me stuck in my head and then nothing can get through because hey! It's Catch You Catch Me, it's too catchy for anything else to get stuck there.
Something about journalism maybe but... not really, actually, because there isn't a whole lot to say. There's Stuff Going On but it basically has nothing to do with me and is therefore not my problem, so I don't really care. As long as the paper gets out on time, that's what's important, really. (It's what I usually do when there's Stuff Going On; just do my own thing because at least I know what I'm doing, even if nobody else does.)
Which brings me to something about philosophies, and maybe personality. (That's a word that's been flying around the journalism room - personality. It's also been being used incorrectly about 60% of the time.) See, I have two main philosophies, and for a while I thought they were mutually exclusive. (Interestingly enough, they're both based on magical girls.) The first one is, if somebody needs help and it's in your power to help them, then you should. It doesn't matter if it's just a tiny little thing that you can do - if you can do it, you should do it. The second one is to not stress out over factors beyond your control - everything will be all right. But then I thought about it, and I realised that they're actually pretty related ideas. If you can do something, then you should do everything that you can do - and if there's nothing you can do, then you shouldn't worry about it.
I like this philosophy, and it works for me. I explained it to somebody who seems to be wired somewhat similarly to me, and it seemed like they got it - but then I heard their interpretation later, which they thought matched mine, and it... really didn't. (Then I remembered that this is the person who will seem like they get what you're saying and then later twist things around to suit their own purposes, so I really shouldn't have been surprised.)
ANYWAY. Before I make this post even more stupidly long-winded: THE PASTASTRAVAGANZA IS NOW. (Actually it's more like five minutes ago. But I haven't finished. So I guess it can still be now.)
