Wednesday, 3 August 2011 03:50 pmJust recently I have done the research that my mum's been bothering me to do for the past few weeks - textbook prices and bus lines. My school bookstore insists that my maths class doesn't require anything, which I find a little dubious - what kind of maths class doesn't require a textbook? But then, I'm just a college freshman, so what would I know.
I think I know what bus I would need to take to get to class, although I'm not particularly happy about it. I have a car, I was supposed to spend the summer learning to drive... of course, to do that, I'd need someone to teach me how to drive, which none of my family members seem particularly enthused about doing. (It actually seems that my mum doesn't mind all that much, but she almost never seems to have time, which basically amounts to the same thing.) So I have a car and I have a permit and I'm willing to learn, but I don't have any way to learn. Meanwhile time's ticking away and classes are going to start soon and I still don't have any way to get there. Except the bus. Which two-thirds of my family is very adamantly against me taking.
Of course, they also aren't exactly doing anything to keep me from having to take the bus, so I'm not so sure that their opinion counts for all that much.
It's not like I really want to take the bus. I'd really rather drive; it would cost about the same (putting $10-$20 in my car every week >= $80 for a monthly bus pass) and there would be less having to interact with other people, which is always a plus when you're me.
Anyway, in marginally less depressing news, I saw Captain America yesterday and it was awesome, I should be getting my glasses today, and I'm going to Disneyland in less than two weeks. So I guess there's that.
