Tuesday, 6 April 2010 03:33 pmAnd mum's technological phobias continue to annoy me. She absolutely refuses to do any of her internet banking on dad's computer, because apparently having to completely reinstall Windows three times means that hackers are constantly watching his computer, waiting for banking information to come out of it. Now she's absolutely refusing to have anything to do with our wireless network, because "it's unsecure! People can steal information!" So when I, understandably annoyed at the thought of having to tell Sarah that sorry, that $40 you just spent? Yeah, you just wasted it, because mum thinks wireless internet is the devil and doesn't want any, told mum to just do her banking at work then, jeez, she's all, "FIne. I'll remember that the next time I have make a transfer at home and can't." Which... what the hell is that supposed to mean, anyway? Then she got all pissy at me and hung up. |:<
I mean really, what does she expect me to do? I don't know how the network was set up, because I wasn't the one to set it up (for once). I do know that unplugging the modem from the router is likely to kill the whole thing, but I don't know if plugging it back in equals reset button or not. And does she really expect me and everyone else to drop what they're doing every single time she wants to check her bank account? Can't you do that shit over the phone? (Answer: yes.) I imagine she'd protest that doing it over the phone isn't secure, either. (Either that or she'd complain about surcharges.)
And really, what's the likelihood of someone tapping wireless transmissions? I imagine it's about the same as the likelihood of someone tapping your cable line. |:<
In less annoying news, I played around with post formats on Gaia earlier. I have my own thread in the test forum and everything :D I kinda wish I'd switched toolbars so I could have more than three at a time, but then I can also just save them in a text document or something too, so I guess it doesn't really matter. I don't quite understand the ridiculously elaborate formats for RP, but they're fun to make, at any rate.
